Start with your application, not the supplier list
Before comparing suppliers, define the application — food, cosmetic, or industrial — and the sensory, regulatory, and certification requirements it implies. A supplier that is a strong fit for a cosmetics brand may not carry the food-safety documentation a food manufacturer needs, and the reverse is also true.

Certifications and documentation to request
Certifications signal that a supplier's processes have been audited by a third party, but the specific certifications that matter depend on your destination market and finished product category.
- Organic certification (if relevant), matched to your target market's accepted standard.
- Halal certification, where required by destination or buyer requirement.
- Food-safety system certification (such as HACCP) for food-grade buyers.

- Export documentation the supplier can routinely provide: Certificate of Origin, packing list, and any market-specific paperwork.
Ask for a sample tied to your actual production batch
A sample is most useful when it comes from the same production process and, ideally, the same lot family that would supply a commercial order — not a hand-picked reference sample. Evaluate the sample in your intended formulation or process, not only on its own.
Confirm MOQ, lead time, and communication before you commit
Minimum order quantity, production lead time, and shipment terms (EXW, FOB, CIF) should be confirmed in writing, along with who your point of contact will be after the order is placed. A supplier that is slow or vague in the inquiry stage is a reasonable signal of what after-sales communication will look like.
Treat prices far below the market as a question, not a discount
Coconut oil pricing is influenced by copra and raw-material costs, so quotes far below the prevailing market range are worth questioning rather than accepting at face value — ask what is different about the specification, packaging, or certification status that explains the gap.
