Why moisture content matters for coco fiber exports, typical targets, and how it interacts with baling and packaging.
Moisture affects weight, mold risk, and baling stability
Coco fiber is typically sold and shipped in compressed bales, and moisture content affects both the shipped weight and the risk of mold or heating inside a densely packed bale during a multi-week sea transit. A moisture specification protects both sides of the transaction, not just the buyer.

What to specify and how it's tested
Ask for the maximum moisture percentage at the point of baling, and how it is tested (typically oven loss-on-drying for fiber). A single spot-check on a sample is less reliable than a stated quality-control procedure applied across the production batch.
- State the maximum moisture percentage required, not a general "dry" description.
- Ask how moisture is tested and at what stage (before or after baling).
- Confirm bale weight tolerance, since moisture content affects both.
Moisture and dirt content are related but separate specifications
Buyers sometimes conflate moisture with foreign matter or dirt content, but they are different parameters requiring separate limits. Specify both — moisture percentage and maximum dirt or foreign matter percentage — rather than assuming one implies the other.
